In June we told Shopify merchants that support was on the way. Today it's here: Flexilay has been approved by Shopify as a payment option, and you can install it on your store right now.
If you've been waiting to offer a genuine LayBy at your Shopify checkout — one that doesn't hand your customers a loan — this is the post you've been waiting for.
What Shopify merchants get
Flexilay appears at your Shopify checkout alongside your existing payment methods. When a customer chooses it, they see the full schedule before they confirm: the deposit, the instalment amount, the frequency and the final payment date. Then:
- The customer pays over time — weekly, fortnightly or monthly, on rules you set.
- Payments flow through your own Stripe account. Flexilay never holds your funds.
- You hold the goods until the plan is paid in full, then fulfil the order as normal.
- Reminders, receipts and catch-up flows are automatic, and every customer gets a branded portal to manage their plans.
It's the same LayBy experience merchants already run on WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Odoo — now inside Shopify.
How to install it today
Flexilay is listed on the Shopify App Store as FlexiLay Payments:
- Add FlexiLay Payments in your Shopify admin — sign in, pick your store and you land straight on the Flexilay provider page under Settings → Payments (it's also on the Shopify App Store).
- Connect your Stripe account and set your deposit and schedule rules.
- Activate Flexilay under Settings → Payments in your Shopify admin.
Prefer to start from our side? Create your free Flexilay account and click Shopify Install — it takes you to the same place.
That's it — LayBy shows up at checkout. There are no monthly or setup fees, so you can switch it on for a single collection and see how customers respond.
Why this matters: LayBy, not BNPL
Shopify already offers Buy Now, Pay Later options. Flexilay is deliberately not one of them.
BNPL pays you upfront, ships the goods immediately and makes the customer a borrower — with the provider's fees, eligibility checks and, on longer plans, interest. Flexilay creates no debt at all. The customer commits to the order, pays it down at a pace they can afford, and collects it once it's paid. No credit checks, no interest, no lender in the middle. You stay in complete control of the goods the whole way through — the same LayBy model Australian retailers have trusted for decades (here's the full comparison).
For merchants selling higher-ticket, plan-ahead purchases — jewellery, furniture, bikes, nursery gear, Christmas stock — that difference converts the shoppers BNPL turns away: the ones who actively avoid debt.
